TRAUMA & PTSD THERAPY

Trauma can continue to affect the way you think, feel, respond, and connect with others long after the experience itself has ended. You may feel constantly on alert, avoid reminders of what happened, experience intrusive memories, struggle with sleep, or find it difficult to feel safe and present.

Trauma and PTSD therapy provides a supportive space to process difficult experiences without judgment. Robyn works at a pace that respects your comfort and readiness, helping you better understand your responses, develop effective coping skills, and begin rebuilding a greater sense of safety and control.

Trauma therapy may be helpful if you are experiencing:

  • Intrusive or distressing memories
  • Nightmares or difficulty sleeping
  • Avoidance of people, places, or situations
  • Feeling constantly alert, tense, or unsafe
  • Emotional numbness or disconnection
  • Shame, guilt, anger, or difficulty trusting others
  • Relationship challenges connected to past experiences

Additional resource: Learn more through PTSD Basics from the National Center for PTSD.

EMDR THERAPY

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, commonly known as EMDR, is a structured form of psychotherapy used to address traumatic memories and other distressing experiences.

During EMDR therapy, clients briefly focus on a difficult memory while participating in bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements or alternating tapping. The process is designed to help reduce the intensity associated with the memory and support healthier emotional responses.

EMDR may be considered for concerns such as:

  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Distressing or intrusive memories
  • Anxiety connected to past experiences
  • Negative beliefs about yourself
  • Fear or emotional reactions connected to particular events
  • Experiences that continue to feel unresolved

Robyn will help determine whether EMDR is appropriate for your needs, comfort level, and goals. Preparation and emotional safety are important parts of the process, and EMDR is introduced at an individualized pace.

THERAPY FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SURVIVORS

The effects of domestic violence can continue long after an abusive relationship or experience has ended. Survivors may struggle with fear, self-doubt, guilt, anxiety, difficulty trusting others, or uncertainty about what comes next.

Robyn provides compassionate, trauma-informed therapy for individuals affected by domestic violence. Therapy offers a private, nonjudgmental space to process your experiences, reconnect with your own voice, rebuild confidence, establish healthy boundaries, and move forward at your own pace.

Support may include:

  • Processing the emotional effects of abuse
  • Understanding trauma responses
  • Rebuilding confidence and self-trust
  • Addressing anxiety, fear, guilt, or shame
  • Developing and maintaining healthy boundaries
  • Recognizing unhealthy relationship patterns
  • Adjusting to life during or after a major relationship change

You will not be blamed, pressured, or expected to share more than you are ready to discuss. Your emotional safety and personal choices remain central to the therapeutic process.

Immediate support: If it is safe for you to do so, visit the National Domestic Violence Hotline

ANXIETY THERAPY

Anxiety can make it difficult to feel present, make decisions, rest, or enjoy everyday life. It may appear as persistent worry, racing thoughts, physical tension, irritability, fear, avoidance, perfectionism, or a sense that something is always about to go wrong.

Anxiety therapy can help you better understand what activates your anxiety and how it affects your thoughts, behaviors, relationships, and physical well-being. Together, you and Robyn can work toward developing practical coping strategies and more balanced ways of responding to uncertainty.

Anxiety therapy may support concerns such as:

  • Persistent or excessive worry
  • Racing or repetitive thoughts
  • Feeling restless, tense, or overwhelmed
  • Avoiding situations because of fear
  • Perfectionism or fear of making mistakes
  • Difficulty sleeping or relaxing
  • Anxiety related to relationships, work, school, or change

The goal is not to eliminate every anxious feeling. Instead, therapy can help you develop a healthier relationship with anxiety so it has less control over your choices and daily life.

MINDFULNESS COUNSELING

Mindfulness involves learning to notice your thoughts, emotions, and physical experiences in the present moment with greater curiosity and less judgment. It is not about emptying your mind or pretending difficult emotions do not exist.

Robyn may incorporate mindfulness-based techniques into therapy to help you slow down, recognize emotional patterns, and respond more intentionally rather than reacting automatically. These practices can be adapted to each client’s comfort level, age, and therapeutic goals.

Mindfulness counseling may help you:

  • Recognize thoughts and emotions without immediately reacting
  • Feel more grounded during stressful moments
  • Develop greater emotional awareness
  • Reduce harsh self-judgment
  • Improve focus and connection to the present moment
  • Create space between an emotion and your response
  • Build practical skills for managing anxiety and stress

Mindfulness is used as one part of an individualized therapeutic approach and is not expected to replace other forms of appropriate care.

STRESS MANAGEMENT COUNSELING

Stress is a normal part of life, but ongoing or overwhelming stress can affect your mood, sleep, concentration, relationships, and overall sense of well-being. When you are constantly managing responsibilities or anticipating the next problem, it can become difficult to slow down and recover.

Stress management counseling can help you identify the sources of stress in your life, understand your current responses, and develop healthier ways to cope. Therapy may also help you recognize where boundaries, expectations, or long-standing patterns are contributing to emotional exhaustion.

Counseling may support you with:

  • Work, school, or family-related stress
  • Caregiver stress
  • Feeling emotionally or physically depleted
  • Difficulty setting boundaries
  • Major decisions or life changes
  • Trouble relaxing or disconnecting from responsibilities
  • Feeling overwhelmed by competing demands

Together, you and Robyn can develop realistic strategies that reflect your circumstances rather than relying on one-size-fits-all advice.

SELF-ESTEEM COUNSELING

Low self-esteem can affect how you see yourself, communicate your needs, make decisions, and connect with others. You may frequently question your worth, compare yourself to others, dismiss your strengths, or allow fear of criticism to influence your choices.

Self-esteem counseling can help you identify where negative beliefs originated and how they continue to affect your life. Therapy provides an opportunity to challenge harsh internal messages, recognize your strengths, develop healthier boundaries, and build a more balanced and compassionate view of yourself.

Counseling may support you if you experience:

  • Persistent self-criticism
  • Difficulty recognizing your strengths
  • Fear of rejection or disappointing others
  • People-pleasing or difficulty setting boundaries
  • Comparing yourself negatively to others
  • Perfectionism or fear of failure
  • Difficulty trusting your own judgment
  • Feeling undeserving of healthy relationships or opportunities

Building self-esteem does not mean ignoring areas where you want to grow. It means learning to approach yourself with greater honesty, fairness, and compassion.

Online Therapy for Adults and Pre-Teens

Robyn works primarily with adults experiencing trauma, anxiety, stress, relationship concerns, self-esteem challenges, and difficult life transitions.

She may also provide therapy for pre-teens when online therapy and her clinical approach are appropriate for the child’s needs.

Sessions are adapted to the client’s developmental level, and parent or guardian involvement may be incorporated when clinically appropriate.

A consultation provides an opportunity to discuss what is happening, ask questions, and determine whether Robyn’s services are a good fit.

Online Therapy in the East Bay

All therapy services are provided online through a secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform. Online therapy allows clients to attend sessions from a private, comfortable location without traveling to an office.

Robyn serves clients throughout California, with a particular focus on the East Bay and Contra Costa and Alameda County communities, including:

Brentwood • Pleasanton • Walnut Creek • Antioch • Lafayette • Clayton • Oakley • Discovery Bay • Concord • Pleasant Hill • Livermore • Dublin • San Ramon • Danville and surrounding communities
